ACTIVITY:
Activity class consists of all other activities besides conferences like study program, universities project, etc. The first fields are classical and easy to complete, make simply sure the base name isn’t too long or too obscure or confused. For the abbreviation, choose a clear one by taking the first letter(s) of each important word and put it in capital letters. If it’s a foreign activity with a special name in another language, don’t hesitate to fill in the field “Title-Original”, for some particular languages, we advice to simply copy the name from the source and paste it in the correct box in order to avoid some difficulties to write it if there is some really specific letters. Concerning the type of the activity, the user currently has six choices: cooperation-coordination, education, innovation or transformation, military action, science and research, social, sport, relaxation, choose the better one or if any matches, refer to the fifth section of this manual. Type of studies is transparent. Particular care shall be taken to the next point “Annotation” because a correct one allows the user to save time and get a correct global view of the activity presented, so point out some important facts about the current activity, what are its goals, who realize it, etc. The next points until the website address are less important and their meaning remains rather unsubtle. Please, as often as possible, put a current and usable one and if some links or address don’t work, don’t hesitate to inform the administrator (see the fifth part). Last but not least, choose the correct connections in the different lists. Not all links are compulsory; often one or two are enough to correctly describe the situation or the context.
CITY:
City is a really easy class to fill in, that’s simply the presentation of the town. Some care shall be taken to the base name of the city, start by putting the name of the city, then after a comma write the NATO trigram of the country. All its other fields don’t need further explanations. A brief presentation of the city in the “Annotation” field could make the reader saved some time and replaces the city in a more global political and geographical context. Don’t forget to situate the city by added the correct country where the city is placed and specify all the currently existing places already created in the database which are located in this city.
CONFERENCE:
This class deals with any professional, scientific or public conferences. A special care must be taken to the base name in order to simplify further research or any consultations of the database. The base name starts with the abbreviation of the conference followed by its year. Next, put its complete name. For instance, the 2012 European-Japanese Conference on Information Modeling and KB shall have the following base name: “ECJ-2012 European Japanese Conference on Information Modeling and Knowledge Bases”. In the annotation, state the main topic of the conference and its numerous domains of application. The address is the place where the conference happened. Many of the links have already been defined above but a chart in annex specifies all the different connections between classes. The most important should be “issues”, globally the following choice has been made each conference owns a document named “Conference Proceedings” which regroups all the different articles written and all the presentations made. The name of this file is built thus, first the abbreviation of the conference then the word “Conference Proceedings” in order to specify its role. For instance, there is an “ECJ-2012 Conference Proceedings”.
CONFERENCE CENTER:
This class deals with any professional, scientific, public conference center. Its fields don’t have any subtleties. Three important points, firstly don’t forget to put the NATO trigram of the country where the conference center is situated at the end of the base name, for instance, TsukubaInternational Congress Center, JAP, secondly the link “is-placed” refers to the town where the conference center is located, lastly the link “organizes” creates a connection between the conference center and the conference which it received.
COUNTRY:
This class presents the countries where events happen. It’s a part of another database filling in according the CIA Factbook in which world geography and topography were elaborated even on ontological basis. There are no specific constraints or rules to completing it but try to be as accurate as possible.
DOCUMENT:
The document consists of sections and/or the text content of articles. There are few important points or mysterious ones. The field “type-of-document” allows the classification of the document by its structure and type, the choice is wild (proceedings, instructional text, standard, methodology …) so fill in carefully. The next interesting point is the link “consists-of” which refers to each document-part connected to this document, these items are the different articles or parts of text.
DOCUMENT-PART:
The section consists of additional sections and/or the text proper and is a part of the document providing logical structure. Two rules have to be respected; the first concerns the base name if the document part is an article issued from a journal or a conference but after its name, the abbreviation of its source. The second point is the ISO citation, a good citation allows fast and efficient research so be accurate and don’t forget to put all needed details, author name, name of the source, numbers of pages, ISSN, … . Remind that in annex, you could find a summary table of the different connections and associations.
DOCUMENT-TEXT:
Neither the document nor the section has their own content, but the mere text.
DOMAIN:
Domain class deals with the interests of a person, organization, the topic of scientific researches. It allows a classification of documents, conferences and activities according to their main topic or their interest focus. For instance, there is a domain called “Information and knowledge technology (I-KT)” which refers to several domain areas linked to the technology of information and its processing. Choose a short but explicit abbreviation and also complete correctly and precisely the annotation field in order to accurately define the scope of each domain.
DOMAIN-AREA:
It’s all topics of interest in the document or its parts. The base name has to be filling as following first the connected domain then the domain area name (for instance, IKT- Process and project management). A little annotation could specify the scope of this sub-domain. A short advice, don’t try to fill in the link from each domain-area but fill in each case needed in order to simplify its completing.
ORGANIZATION:
Organization refers to other organizations besides the university, according to the CIA FactBook like research organizations focused on military issues, organizations and components for NEC, international cooperation (ERASMUS, SOKRATES, etc.) and organizations listed in the CIA FactBook. The attributes of this class are easy to understand and fill in. An important point remains once again the base name; start by the organization name then put between parentheses its abbreviation according to CIA Factbook or other international institutions.
PERSON:
This class deals with persons who play a role in the database by writing some of its articles or doing some presentations. Attributes are easy to understand and to complete, please be accurate and check your sources. Once again the base name has a particular structure, in first place the surname then the given one, then the abbreviation of the organization which employed him and lastly the country of his nationality. For instance, Smith John, UoD CZE is an imaginary Czech man who virtually works for the University of Defense.
PRODUCT:
Product class presents the result of activities performed by organizations or their staff, as well as the application and support of their activities. The base name is built as following, first the name of the product, then the company or the university which created it, lastly the country where it was achieved. Favor the abbreviation for the two last points in order to make the base name short and explicit. For instance, there is “Knowledge Management System MENTAL, UoD CZE” which is created by the University of Defense of Czech Republic.
UNIVERSITY:
This class presents each university as a global entity; its different parts correspond to another class. It deals with military universities of NATO states and numerous other universities where ICT and SEC are taught. Fill in the different fields, the name of the university, its name in local language, define an abbreviation, the number of students, state the kind of university students, military, civilian or both, address could be useful, an annotation could save time for the reader and characterize the university and lastly try to always find an email address for any further contacts. The base name once again follows some specific rules, it must express in the first view the university in an unambiguous way, first the name, then the city if there isn’t only one such university in the county then the NATO trigram of the country (Example: Uni of Defence, Czech).
UNIVERSITY-PART:
This class refers to the organizationally part of university. It presents its departments and the numerous components of its frame. The rules are globally the same as for the university class. The only particular point is about the base name, it must express in the first view that it is a part of university/faculty.The rule is the following:
Abbreviation_Of_University/Abbreviation_Of_Faculty (/Abbreviation_Of_Department), Abbreviation_Of_Country(NATO trigram), Name_Of_The_Department
Examples:
UoD CZE, Faculty of Military Technology
UoD/FMT CZE, CIS Department
