NATO School

The NATO School Oberammergau (NSO) conducts education and individual training in support of current and developing NATO operations, strategy, policy, doctrine and procedures.

The NATO School provides resident courses of instruction in five main disciplines: Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), Joint Operations, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), Policy and NCO Programmes (NCOP). Most courses are one week duration and there are many subjects from which to choose.

There are currently seven departments operating within the Academics Directorate, responsible for over 106 courses available at the NATO School throughout the academic year. The departments include:

  • Current Operations
  • Joint Operations
  • Intelligence, Surveillence, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance
  • Policy
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction
  • Standards, Evaluation and Training
  • Non-Commissioned Officer Programmes
