Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin was founded in 07.01.1997 by the National Council of Slovak Republic, according to the Law on the Establishment of the University of Trenčín. The University of Trenčín was established as a state university.
According to the Law on Higher Education were set up its basic components: Faculty of Special Technology, Faculty of Mechatronics, Faculty of Social and Economic Relations and Faculty of Industrial Technologies, based in Púchov. In 2004 was created Institute of Healthcare and Nursing for education and research in healthcare. In 2006 the Institute was transformed into the Faculty of Healthcare.
After five years of activity, based on achievements in education, the University of Trenčín was honored by renaming to Alexander Dubcek University of Trencin. In 2002 under the Higher Education Act has been transformed into a public university.
