Part of Faculty of Military Technologies, University of Defence, Brno, Czech Republic. Education and research in Communication and Information Technology, Security, and Signals Intelligence.

The focus of study

Department of Communication and Information Systems (CIS) is focused in the areas of Communication and Information Technologies with emphasis on their applications in military environment. From this perspective, following directions are observed and researched: military telecommunications and radio communications and their management, computer hardware and software, computer networks and security of communication and information systems. In telecommunications, the main attention is focused on military transfer and connecting links technology, and military link security issues. In the field of radio-communications, the focus is on military radio systems. In the field of computer technology, emphasis is placed on personal computer HW architecture, application development, programming languages and technologies, database systems, technology for information systems development, operating systems, local and global computer networks technology, network and operating systems security issues, web technologies and XML language.

Department of Communication and Information Systems is a leading department in the fields of special communication systems and specialized information technology. Department teaches in bachelor study program an integrated field of study -communication and information systems. The CIS Department teaches students in Master’s study program following the bachelor study program in present form in four different Master Modules: Communication Technology (CT), Information Technology (IT), Security Technology (SEC) and Signal Intelligence Technology (SIGINT). In all of these modules CIS dept. prepares Bachelors and Masters (“engineers”) who are able to carry out military-technical measures for special services and facilities of the Czech Army. Graduates can also work in managerial and technical positions of companies working in communication and information technology area. Department provides Post-Graduate study program (Ph.D. level) in Military Technology, Communication and Information Systems branch. Scientific growth of graduates in electrical engineering or related topics is carried out in this Ph.D. study program. CIS Department also organizes short-term Basic and Advanced Courses in the CIS branch as Lifelong Education, supporting the introduction of new techniques and advanced methods of scientific work. The Department is involved in learning the Cisco Network Academy.
