The Department of Leadership is made up primarily of military officers with subject-matter expertise in the areas of leadership, defence management and cyber-defence. It teaches mostly on the Joint Command and General Staff Course and the Civil Servants Course, and takes responsibility for inspiring leadership skills in students. It also teaches for the Master's Degree.
 
In particular, the department is responsible for teaching Learning Area 3 (Defence Planning) and Learning Area 4 (Leadership) on the Joint Command and General Staff Course and Civil Servants Course. It also provides expertise and teaching in relation to cyber-defence issues.
 
The department has just under ten members of staff, who have subject-matter expertise in leadership, defence management and cyber-defence.
