The Library and Information Centre forms a part of the Slovenian library-information system, which also includes the COBISS electronic catalogue. The main activity of the library is the providing of information and bibliographic services for all services of the Ministry of Defence. Its collection comprises approximately 100,000 items of library materials, which makes the Centre the largest library in the area of defence and military studies in Slovenia.
The organisation of the Ministry of Defence library system is based on a central library and library units. Satellite libraries are professionally managed by its parent service. The bibliographic and informational mission of the Centre is accomplished through procurement, professional and technical treatment of library and information resources, distribution of library materials published by the organisational units of the ministry, information service, loan of own materials and interlibrary loan from Slovenian and foreign libraries. The library is also open for external users who are not employed by the Ministry of Defence.
